EXUMER Unleashes 'Death Mask Messiah' – A Thrash Metal Manifesto!

By Jason
The German thrash titans return with a brutal new album, tackling contemporary chaos head-on.

From the pit of thrash metal’s roaring underbelly, long-running German warriors EXUMER rise once more with a vengeance. Set to unleash their latest beast, 'Death Mask Messiah', on August 28 through Metal Blade Records, this marks the band’s first studio assault in seven long years. With eleven tracks of unrelenting ferocity, EXUMER is poised to solidify their legacy as a thrash metal institution that refuses to bow to mediocrity.

Produced by the formidable Dominic Paraskevopoulos (known for his work with KREATOR and CALIBAN) and mixed and mastered by the sonorous Arthur Rizk (SOULFLY, KING DIAMOND), 'Death Mask Messiah' sees EXUMER adopting a more brutal and direct approach. Co-founding vocalist Mem V. Stein declares, “We are a lot more aggressive than on 'Hostile Defiance' and are returning to a more 'in your face' style.” This new offering is a natural evolution from their 2012 breakthrough, 'Fire & Damnation', marrying contemporary soundscapes with the raw spirit of the 1980s.

Recording sessions took place from December 2025 to January 2026, making 'Death Mask Messiah' the sixth album in EXUMER's storied career and their fourth under the Metal Blade banner. Notably, this record introduces the dynamic rhythm section of drummer Jerome Reil and bassist Alex Voss, whose youthful energy has melded seamlessly with the band's established aggression. “They have formidably integrated themselves as musicians and friends into the EXUMER tapestry,” Mem asserts, hinting at a newfound focus and rawness in the band’s sound.

The album is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a conceptual undertaking inspired by the tumultuous political landscape of the U.S. over the last decade, the pandemic, and the insidious spread of misinformation. Mem reflects on the 30th anniversary of the Waco siege, drawing parallels between David Koresh, a man who donned a metaphorical death mask, and the charlatans leading society astray. Each track on the album encapsulates themes of manipulation and power, with the title track and lead single serving as a focal point that intertwines these narratives.

“We deliberately chose this track as the first single as its sonic assault and lyrical depth represent the totality of our intentions for this album,” Mem explains, emphasizing the importance of their message. The album art, crafted by Björn Gooßes of Killustrations, adds an additional layer of dark allure as 'Death Mask Messiah' will be available in various formats, including vinyl in several limited-edition color variants.

The full track listing features a brutal lineup, including 'Unchained Angel', a special cover featuring the legendary Nasty Ronnie from NASTY SAVAGE, who previously toured with EXUMER in 1988. As the band prepares to launch this new chapter, one thing is clear: EXUMER is not just returning; they are coming back with a vengeance, ready to reclaim their throne in the metal pantheon.
