Within Chaos RV Explodes on Way to CMJ
While on their way to perform live at the this years' CMJ festival in New York City, just
days ago, KOCH recording artists, Within Chaos were traveling in their RV through the Smokey
Mountains on Interstate 40 around Baileyton, Tennessee when smoke started leaking into the back of
the vehicle. The band's bassist, Jim Taylor was driving the RV at the time, didn't notice it for a
while, but when he did, he pulled over immediately into the shoulder. The rest of the members were
asleep. Once he noticed the smoke puffing out from right behind the back right wheel, he
immediately woke the rest of the guys up!
Within Chaos frontman, Danny Reid stated "A UPS driver that was driving by pulled over,
ran to the RV with his fire extinguisher and sprayed it into the area where he saw the smoke coming
from. A cop also happened to drive by and ran up with a fire extinguisher. Right about then, a flame
shot out of a vent in the side of the vehicle, and a thick white cloud of smoke followed. The fire
extinguisher wasn't working at all. At this point, we were sure the thing was going up, and Jim
ducked in to see if he could salvage anything. There was too much smoke filling the space for him to
see anything, except for the fire completely engulfing the bed that guitarist Jason Huggett was
sleeping on just a minute earlier. We all took off about 100 feet away from the fire, and watched it
burn our transportation, clothes, food, money, guitars, etc.., hoping the fire wouldn't spread to our
trailer and burn ALL the equipment. The fire department pulled up in three trucks, completely
stopped all traffic and put the fire out before it ever got to our trailer. But as you can see from the
photos, it burned everything but the metal in the RV!"
Drummer Travis Denham & Jason both went to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation, they
were given tests, and fortunately all checked out fine. Thanks to that all who helped. Also, because
after the band had lost everything (including their shelter) in the fire, the Red Cross put the band up
in a hotel for the night and even gave them a bit of money to buy some clothes. Determined to make
it to CMJ, the Texan boys rented a U-Haul and headed straight up to New York and played their
show. As the saying goes.. The show must go on! Now that's Metal!
