Entombed update
ENTOMBED have entered Studioland studio in Upplands Vaesby, Sweden to begin recording their new album, "Serpent Saints", due on June 6, 2006 via Threeman Recordings. The upcoming CD will be the group's first without the contributions of guitarist Uffe Cederlund, who left the band in September.
ENTOMBED guitarist Alex Hellid has issued the following report on the progress of the recording sessions for the new CD:
"Wednesday, November 30, 2005: Nico [Elgstrand, bass] was waiting for me at the office and I picked him up 12.30 pm and through ice and snow we reach the studio at 1 p.m. after short stop to get some more CDRs.
"Peter [Stjaernvind, drums] coming out today and while waiting for him we edit one idea and work on the arrangement of the song. The middle part still need some attention and possibly a little something to get back to verse or chorus then it'll be ready for another drum take.
"Pete arrives and we listen to a few things and talk about the 'verdict' from yesterday and Pete agrees. Next I ask Pete to put down some rough, rough vocals, without lyrics, in the spots where he feels the vocals should go on two of the ideas to gives us an idea about if the lengths of the different parts are right. He freestyles about Nico's Saturday night alcohol intake in Denmark (they handed out hard liquor by the bottle to us) on two different versions of the same track, one slow and one up tempo. Nico is in tears.
"Pete does the same for another song idea that we've been a bit unsure about but his growling helps.
"Then we move on to a new song Pete has not heard yet and we figure out the drums and put it on the hard drive within half an hour. Almost too easy. Pete leaves and me and Nico do some editing and put down a bass line and a church bell for the intro played by Nico on guitar. Great to finally hear the idea with drums and it sounds good too. Always satisfying. We bounce the track, burn a CD and get out.`
"Thursday, December 1m 2005: Today was a rough day.
"No sleep and I'm half hour late. Freezing and pissed off that his limousine driver is late Nico has already left when I get to the spot where I'm supposed to pick him up. I wanna throw my phone out the window but forget to push the button so it bounces and lands no the floor under the passenger seat. I put DEATH's 'Scream Bloody Gore' on and head out to the studio. Make peace with Nico through text messages and pick him up at the train station. We stock up on food and think love all (the tennis term). But it doesn't end here the shit just keeps coming today it would seem, but let's not get in to that'the high lights are that some fucker put a coffee cup of ammoniac and the dining table (to get rid of smoke apparently) that gets spilled all over us and when we finally get to work fucker no 2 comes to pick up some gear including the speaker cab I'm using thinking it is the studios, shit fall over and the V almost meets its maker, and fucker no 2 just won't leave and before he finally does he promises to be back'but let's not get into it'.
"We listen to the demo from yesterday and edit a little and the song is ready for the big time. Pete arrives and we play it for him and he agrees. We move on to the next idea and try something new. Pete is to play to the guitar and the arrangement I put down to a click track without really knowing the song first. I would not recommend it. The fifteen minutes we save by not jamming on the song and figuring out all the drum parts will be multiplied tenfold when Pete has left and I and Nico try to figure out what happened, how we got played like this, we're stuck with hours of work to get something we can listen to. Suckers. At 8 pm Nico has got an headache and the mood is on top we say fuck it, burn a CD to have something to show for this day and I leave. Nico decides to stay over and mess with riffs and ideas."
