Stranded Death Metallers From Mexico Finally Get Back Home
It has been almost two weeks since the fifth incarnation of Goregrowler's Ball in San Antonio, Texas. The annual extreme metal festival this year managed to book many local, national and international metal bands including Suffocation, Exhumed, and Brutal Truth for the three day spectacle of death and grind metal. The 50 band lineup might have been a little too ambitious for Goregrowler Entertainment to handle as ticket sales barely trickled in. With Saturday's show nearly canceled and promoter Aaron Mendiola locking himself in the club's basement and drinking so heavily paramedics were called on a welfare check, the final day came crashing down. Many bands relied on their payment for the show to get home. When this didn't happen, several bands became stranded in Texas. We were told that some band's resorted to pawning their gear, but Mexico's Rottenness made the best of the bad situation and did what they always do, play.
When local Texas venues and promoters heard what happened to the band, they began adding Rottenness to already booked shows allowing the band to sell merch to fans. More money came in through people reading about the bands plight on facebook. And through it all, the band only looked at the positive. "First.. Just for the record: We really really want to thank Aaron Mendiola for what happened last weekend. Were not angry or mad at him because of his actions we had the amazing chance to have a great show before Suffocation and the wonderful chance to meet excellent people who showed thier huge support!! We dont have enough words to thank everybody... to Aaron and the great metal scene in Texas!! (San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Austin you guys rule!!)"
But like all Disney fairy tales, we too have a happy ending. As of November 29, Rottenness is back home. The band posted the following thanks to fans:
"It is with a great pleasure to inform that the band is back home and safe!!!"
