Kiss guitarist Bob Kulick dies at 70

American guitarist and record producer Bob Kulick — most famous for performing with Kiss, Meatloaf and Lou Read — has died. He was 70.

His older brother Bruce Kulick, a Kiss band member from 1984 to 1996, broke the news via social media in a heartfelt post dedicated to his younger sibling.

“I am heartbroken to have to share the news of the passing of my brother Bob Kulick,” he wrote on Facebook.

“His love of music, and his talent as a musician and producer should always be celebrated.”

He continued, “I know he is at peace now, with my parents, playing his guitar as loud as possible. Please respect the Kulick Family’s privacy during this very sad time.”

At this time, a cause of death has not been revealed.

Tributes from the music industry were quick to flood in.

“We are heartbroken. Our deepest condolences to the Kulick family in this difficult time,” tweeted the band Kiss.

Keyboardist Derek Sherinian tweeted, “I am very sad to hear about the passing of Bob Kulick. I played on several tribute records in the 90s that Bob produced. My condolences to his family and especially Bruce. R.I.P. #BobKulickRIP :(.”

“RIP Bob Kulick. Condolences to @brucekulick and their entire family. Bob played an important part in the history of @kiss and many others. Sad news,” wrote TV personality Eddie Trunk.

“Sorry to hear about the passing of the legendary @bobkulickmusic. I’ve known #BobKulick for 15 years and had the pleasure of working with him three times on a few of his famous ‘All Star Tribute’ albums. Bob was a KILLER guitar player and brought a lot of people together & gave them a lot of joy with his music….I will spend the rest of the day listening to his work,” wrote professional wrestler, Chris Jericho on Instagram.

In 1973, Bob auditioned to be in Kiss but was beat by founding member Ace Frehley.

Despite not making the cut, the legendary guitarist continued to collaborate with Kiss and worked on several of their albums including Alive II, Unmasked and Creatures of the Night.

“In this circumstance, being friends with Gene [Simmons] and Paul [Stanley], it was important to me that when they said ‘this has to be between us and us only,’ that I’m going to keep my word. It’s all about integrity, and that’s how I’m able to keep going,” he told Ultimate Classic Rock in 2018.

“I equated it in my own way to the Beatles and Eric Clapton. The Beatles recorded ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ and wound up with Clapton actually playing the solo. It was un-credited, and everybody originally thought that was George Harrison.”

Bob also worked with Lou Reed on his 1975 album Coney Island Baby and toured with Meat Loaf.
