TAR PIT's striking debut album, Tomb of Doom!

Tar Pit TAR PIT is a doom metal band based out of Portland, Oregon. The band originally formed in 2014 but remained largely inactive until 2017. In 2017, the band reemerged with Mathew Ortega on vocals, Brandon Martinez-Woodall on guitar, Hayden Johnson on bass, and Derek Johnson on drums, and began working on new music. Before recording a demo in June of 2017, TAR PIT briefly recruited Alex Huston for lead guitar, but he soon left to focus on other projects. In October of 2017, TAR PIT recruited lead guitarist Stephen Hoffman and immediately began writing and working towards the release of their debut LP, Tomb of Doom.

Dead-accurately titled, Tomb of Doom takes influence from old-school proto-doom like Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Witchfinder General, and Trouble while adding elements of sludge, grunge, and modern doom metal in the vein of bands like the Melvins, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Tad, latter-era Black Flag, and Windhand, amongst others. The result is a crushing slab of sludgy proto-doom sure to win the hearts of all fans of heavy music. Seriously, how can you go wrong with a band named TAR PIT and an album titled Tomb of Doom? "Truth in advertising," as they say.

DIY and ambitious, TAR PIT initially self-released Tomb of Doom digitally, but so impressed with its crushing swagger, ORDO MCM simply had to release it on a physical format. In the interim, since 2017, TAR PIT have played with many excellent local, national, and international acts including Weedeater, Mothership, Telekenetic Yeti, Goya, Truckfighters, Glasghote, and more. Although Hayden Johnson amicably departed TAR PIT soon after the recording Tomb of Doom to focus on his death metal project Coffin Rot, TAR PIT are now reemerging in 2019 to melt faces and crush skulls with their massive riffs and energetic live show. This new, all-physical release of Tomb of Doom courtesy of ORDO MCM helps clean the slate and prepare the masses for sinking into TAR PIT!
