In ALKALOID'S own words, the band is defined "through the field of tension created between musical opposites. ALKALOID merge extreme metal and other more diverse genres of music into a unique style that people will somehow find familiar, but haven‘t heard yet.
All musicians in the band are known and active players who all have a much broader view of music than just blastbeats and growls. ALKALOID want to establish from the beginning that they have many faces, and oscillating between (seemingly) contrary or mutually exclusive styles is a factor. To use playing technique only to write good songs, is another factor."
ALKALOID was founded by drummer Hannes Grossmann and vocalist/guitarist Morean in 2013. The band, set to push extreme metal to new limits, quickly came together by adding renowned musicians from wildly progressive death metal bands such as NECROPHAGIST, OBSCURA, SPAWN OF POSSESSION, and more. The collective recorded the now acclaimed debut 'The Malkuth Grimoire', which was successfully crowdfunded and self-released in March 2015. The band over-passed their initial goal of €12,000 for album production shortly after the launch of their Indiegogo campaign.
Following the launch of their album, the band performed across Europe, culminating with one special showcase in Cairo, Egypt, which saw the band shooting a video for their song "Cthulhu". ALKALOID now set their sights on pushing the boundaries of metal once again, with a new album being prepared for release via Season of Mist worldwide.
