Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell Performs New Song on Tonight Show
SOUNDGARDEN’s Chris Cornell performed his a new solo track called "The Promise" on the April 19th edition of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The song is the title theme from the upcoming film starring Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon, a love triangle drama set against the Armenian genocide.
The genocide of the Armenians by the Turks claimed more than 1.5 million lives more than a century ago, but Cornell said in a recent interview that what happened back then is “still happening today.”
"That was one of the things that was important to me, was not just telling a century-old story, but telling that story because it's happening today," he said. "We need to be aware that these things happen now. We need to kind of be slapped in the face with the fact that, as horrendous as this was a century ago, in many parts of the world we haven't gotten anywhere."
Cornell will donate his proceeds from the song to the International Rescue Committee, which responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises.
SOUNDGARDEN last month announced a North American tour that will kick off on May 3 in Atlanta, winding down on May 27 at the Rocklahoma festival in Pryor, Oklahoma.
