Biography: Sail or Saille is the name of the fourth letter of the Irish Ogham alphabet, meaning “willow”. Pronunciation: [sahl-yeh] - Saille was founded by Dries Gaerdelen [keyboards] in 2008, in order to create his favourite style of music (melodic black metal with a threatening and epic feel, like Tartaros, Limbonic Artand Keep of Kalessin). The debut album “Irreversible Decay” was recorded at the end of 2009 and finalized in September 2010. After being contacted by several
labels, Saille chose to work with Code666 records and the album “Irreversible Decay” was released March 4th 2011. At first Saille was only intended as a studio project. However, it soon became clear the music should be brought to life and several shows followed. In July 2012 the band hit the Shumcot Studio again to record their second album entitled “Ritu”. With lyrics inspired by death rites in ancient cultures and vocalist Dennie Grondelaers’ interest for H.P. Lovecraft and Cthulhu, the next album had a much darker setting. Again classical skilled guest musicians were invited to create the irreplaceable real sounds. After two months
of intensive recording sessions, the final mix was finished in September and sent to the Norwegian mastering specialist Tom Kvålsvoll (Strype Audio). On January 18th 2013 “Ritu” saw the light of day as a digipak CD. After the release of the 2nd album Saille embarked on their first tour in January 2013, with Transylvanian black metal legends Negura Bunget. Followed by a lot of gigs in Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Denmark, Spain and Germany. Saille's third album "Eldritch" (adj. Weird, sinister, unearthly or ghostly) was released by code666 in 2014 and it is another concept in which they integrated their favourite Horror literature, this album was also released in a ltd edition marble color vinyl by code666.
2017: SAILLE have now completed mixing their fourth full-lenth album, "Gnosis". The cd was mixed and mastered at Hertz Studio in Bialystok, Poland by the Wieslawscy brothers (Behemoth, Decapitated, Vader). The Belgian artist Jean-Philippe Sonnet of Threadbare Artwork was commissioned for the complete design and artwork.
Comments SAILLE guitarist Reinier Schenk: "Our previous cd "Eldritch" was a good album, but we felt it had to be darker, we had to bring
SAILLE to another level. The logo has been modified as a statement; the 'curls' were removed, both in style and music. The listener can expect
a more defined SAILLE, with an own identity. The tracks are more compact and powerful, meanwhile referring to the feel of our 2nd cd "Ritu",
but more intense and extreme this time“. The new album also depicts SAILLE as a five-piece for the first time. Founding member Dries Gaerdelen
decided to leave the band to focus on the bookings.
'Gnosis' is a concept album again. SAILLE frontman Dennie Grondelaers explains about the writing process and lyrics: "With 'Gnosis' (Greek for
'knowledge') we venture into the world of the Promethean ideal and its Luciferian counterpart. This album explores a multitude of historical,
mythological and fictional sources that tell us about the strife for knowledge and its (potentially devastating) consequences. We also visit several
creation myths and scratch the surface of Aleister Crowley's Thelema. The concept was born during research into Russian composer Alexander
Scriabin and his works. His 'Prometheus: The Poem of Fire' didn't serve as a direct source for the lyrics, but it lit the fire that made us venture
into above topics.
