CARNIFEX and DESPISED ICON announce North American co-headlining tour

Carnifex and Despised Icon Tour Symphonic deathcore merchants CARNIFEX will start a two month long crusade across North America starting next February. Shortly there after two colossal innovators of the genre collide, when deathcore godfathers DESPISED ICON join as co-headliners starting March 17th. Finishing out the tour package are ethereal progressive metallers FALLUHJAH, alien themed tech-death masters RINGS OF SATURN, as well as LORNA SHORE and SHE MUST BURN.

"Slow Death has been a monster album for us, charting higher and selling faster than all our previous albums. This tour matches the size and scope of that album. Together with a our brothers in DESPISED ICON we're bringing North America the sickest tour possible. Prepare yourself for a live show like no other."

CARNIFEX (From L - R): Shawn Cameron, Cory Arford, Scott Lewis, Jordan Lockrey, Fred Calderon
CARNIFEX's latest album Slow Death was produced and recorded by CARNIFEX and Mick Kenney (ANAAL NATHRAKH, BLEEDING THROUGH), and co-produced by Jason Suecof (DEATH ANGEL, CHELSEA GRIN, JOB FOR A COWBOY). Slow Death was mixed by Mark Lewis (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, WHITECHAPEL, DEVILDRIVER, DEICIDE) at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida. Cover art for the album was created by renowned artist and longtime collaborator Godmachine.

While approaching their sixth full-length album, Slow Death, CARNIFEX possessed a distinct vision. The San Diego metal quintet—Scott Lewis [lead vocals], Shawn Cameron [drums], Cory Arford [rhythm guitar, backing vocals], Fred Calderon [bass], and Jordan Lockrey [lead guitar]—would build on the expansiveness of 2014’s critically acclaimed Die Without Hope as they brought a definitive darkness to the fold.

“We wanted to take the next step,” affirms Scott. “On the last album, we started utilizing orchestration and additional programming in terms of classical and electronic sounds. We elevated that to a new level here. That’s why there’s a dark vibe that runs through the whole album. It adds a layer of atmosphere that gives you a different feeling.”

CARNIFEX began carving out that bond with the audience way back in 2005. Over the course of four albums—Dead in My Arms, The Diseased and the Poisoned, Hell Chose Me, and Until I Feel Nothing—the band attracted a diehard following. Engaging a hiatus in 2012, they returned a year later with a vicious and vigorous vitality. It’s only grown since and is on full display in Slow Death.

DESPISED ICON (From L - R): Eric Jarrin, Ben Landreville, Alex Pelletier, Steve Marois, Sebastien Piche, Alex Erian
The long awaited reunion record from DESPISED ICON, Beast, was produced and engineered by former guitarist Yannick St-Amand (Beneath The Massacre, Neuraxis) and mixed/mastered by Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Opeth, Nevermore). Artwork was created by Alexandre Goulet.

For many extreme music fans, it may be hard to remember a time before DESPISED ICON, given the massive influence they’ve subsequently had on the genre. But when the group formed back in 2002 and released Consumed by Your Poison the same year, there was little intersection between the sounds of classic death metal and the brute force of hardcore. But DESPISED ICON were among the first to fully embrace the signatures of the traditional death metal formula combined with a relentless embrace of breakdowns, part of an emerging new sound.

Now, DESPISED ICON have returned with Beast. The genre-defining band is fully reawakened, poised to recapture the crown with the monstrous and merciless might of their potent expression. Featuring the men responsible for most of the band’s now classic death metal catalog, Beast is a vicious commentary on the state of the world and the state of music itself.
