Album Overview: Science of Sleep: "Hellmouth"
These guys have been hammering out this monstrosity for the last three years while touring. You got to hand it them on this one. It does not disappoint. They have beefed up their sound tremendously since their 2013 release Exhaust.
If the last two releases from "Thy Art Is Murder", "After The Burial", and "Within The Ruins" is your thing I know that you are going to love and appreciate this record long after you purchase it. For me personally I think this band is carrying elements that I hear from all three of these bands which I must emphatically say is an amazing thing for the ears to behold. Check out this fucking video:
I don't know what these guys are eating for breakfast the past three years but the raw power and energy coming off this record is what you want playing in the background behind you when you open up a can of whoop ass on whole garrison of your enemies……at the same time.
The album opens with the title "Hellmouth" full of blast beats and hair raising breakdowns. The vocalist deep guttural growls sound like whatever beast is yelling into the microphone sounds like he swallowed an SUV or ate a bear. Who knows.
Another good one is "Columns Of Greed". The intertwining of dissident chords coming off of both guitars in the beginning makes the hair on the back of heat. Then rips into an unrelenting fury. The Dual vo cal attack is VERY effective. The slight bends during the breakdowns are amazing. This has to be one of best brutal deathcore records that I have heard so far this year. I am going to keep my eyes peeled for when they are on tour in the United States.
A word from SCIENCE OF SLEEP's publicist:
The music features the band's trademark rapid-fire brutality and is full of blast-beats and heavy breakdowns. Lyrically and conceptually, the album address a variety of topics, reaching from the Hell mythology, fascism and the darkest parts of the human nature.
Hellmouth was recorded with Simon Hawemann (Sludge Studios, War From A Harlots Mouth) in Berlin and mixed by Christian Schwarz (Schwarzmusik). The mastering was done by Andy Marsh (Thy Art is Murder).
