NEGURĂ BUNGET Unveils Short Film for New Album 'ZI'
NEGURĂ BUNGET is an award-winning Transylvanian black metal band that twists the genre sideways, presenting an atmospheric sound that incorporates both progressive underground metal and traditional Romanian music. In celebration of its twentieth year as a group, NEGURĂ BUNGET will release its new album, ZI, on September 30 via Prophecy Productions.
In advance of the release of ZI, NEGURĂ BUNGET debuts a stunning, ten minute long "album film", titled simply, 'ZI'. The artistic short, beautifully shot in the Transylvanian forests, blends excerpts from each of the album’s six tracks. Metal Injection premieres the 'ZI' film, saying, "Negura Bunget are no strangers to doing things in unique ways. For over twenty years they have been blending black metal with folk, atmosphere, and general weirdness to create something wonderful." View 'ZI' now
ZI (English for “Day” or “Say”) is the second part of NEGURĂ BUNGET’s ambitious “Transylvanian Trilogy”, released on the heels of 2015’s celebrated album, TĂU (English for “Your” or “Thy”), a record accurately hailed as “earthshaking” as it focused on unique native, natural landscapes and the mystique, legends, lore and meanings behind them.
NEGURĂ BUNGET also debuted a video for the album's lead track, “Tul-ni-ca-rind”, which drummer Gabriel ‘Negru’ Mafa says, "is a song about sending a message; a message between places, between worlds, between different states of conscience." Check out NEGURĂ BUNGET's “Tul-ni-ca-rind” now.
In creating its most luminescent recording to date, NEGURĂ BUNGET has further immersed itself in the traditions and practices of local Transylvanian inhabitants, exploring their connection with nature, and the way this relationship has shaped spiritual horizons. Within this framework, ZI closely examines the core of the most important traditions and rituals connected with the well-being of this community. Life events such as funeral ceremonies, soil tillage, and human growth and evolution (i.e. youth to teen to man to warrior, through to outcast) are spotlighted, in what is undoubtedly some of the most heady, thinking-man’s metal produced in recent memory.
Musically, ZI builds upon the hallmarks of NEGURĂ BUNGET's impressive catalog; the juxtaposition and interweaving of grim black metal elements, ambient soundscapes and acoustic passages based on native Romanian folk music, giving life to panoramic atmospheres, intensity and a power unequaled in the band's rich discography.
Track listing:
1.) Tul-ni-ca-rind (Bloody Disgusting premiere)

A stunning musical statement and crucial bridge between root-bearing beginning and impending finale of the trilogy (scheduled to be released in early 2018), ZI is a mystical, tension-building recording that mirrors the size and scope of the deep forest fog for which the band is named.
In addition to Negru, NEGURĂ BUNGET features Tibor Kati (vocals / guitars / keyboards / programming), Adrian Neagoe / Oq (guitars / vocals / keyboards), Petrică Ionuţescu (pipes / horns / trumpet / traditional instruments / vocals), Ovidiu Corodan (bass) and Daniel Dorobanţu (visual design).
