Chariots Of The Gods - The Voyage Home
Canada's Chariots Of The Gods guitarist, Mathieu St-Amour, has sent The Gauntlet the final Captain's Log road report from the band's latest voyage (tour). Be sure to visit the band's Bandcamp page to hear their latest album 'Tides of War.'
Captain's log, Star Date 23062013 : A sea of flesh; Toronto.
"The last day of shows for us. Tonight we play in Toronto; at the Bovine Sex Club to be precise. A prestigious club where many great bands have played. We were going to play on the same stage; walk in the footsteps of greats such as Metallica, Foo Fighters, Guns 'n Roses, U2 and Motley Crüe. It might not be anything special, but for us, being fanboys at hearth, its still pretty cool.
"So we hit the road at 01200 hour to try and beat the certainty of traffic. As predicted there was some traffic but for some weird reason. Us, going Westward, were caught in a traffic jam because a boat (yes I'm talking about a real boat) had flipped and crashed in the grass on the other side (eastward). The weird thing is there wasn't even traffic on that side! For the life of me, I don't get it.
"We then entered the Toronto Station spaceways, going south, downtown. When we finally arrived in the streets, there was a sea of people. We were taken aback by what we saw. It took us about 25 minutes to drive down 3 blocks to our hotel. Now the tricky thing was to try and find parking with a Travel Pod. After an exhaustive search, we decided to use the parking facilities provided by our hotel. There, we waited again, in our room. Payam and Reno went to the gym/spa while Dimitri and I watched "Role Models" with Paul Rudd on TV.
"We left our hotel at 01900 hour, giving us plenty of time to face the hordes of people and traffic that surely lay ahead. But to our great surprise, the streets were now fine. We arrived at the venue 10 minutes later and again were lucky with parking; right in front of the venue. Payam and I, after having unloaded all our gear, went for a little stroll down Queen Street. Having been in the company of men for 5 days straight, let me tell you that the scantily clad women of Toronto were working their magic on us all. They were everywhere, it seemed; we were outnumbered. The city heat doubled the effect.
"The line-up tonight was "Ischemic", with whom we had played in Hamilton, "Mulletcorpse" a technical death metal band and "Will of the Ancients", the promoters band, which was actually pretty good. And then we went on stage for the last time on this leg of the tour. A great show we played; the crowd seemed to really feed off our energy. On the last song, "Tides of War", we even had 3 beautiful drunk girls pole dancing and making out as we were playing. I don't need to tell you how that didn't help the situation mentioned above!
"After our set was done and all was packed, we cheered, hugged and drank in celebration of a job well done. To quote the great Gaius Julius Caesar : "Veni, Vidi, Vici". We left the venue at 0200 hour and quickly went to bed, for in the morning, we would be going home."

Captain's log, Star Date 24062013 : The voyage Home
"After a fine night's sleep at the Westin Hotel, we started packing our bags and we're eager to hit the road. We left the megacity at approximately 01200 hour. Some minor traffic was encountered when leaving the city but all was well once we hit the HW401 Eastward. But our fortune turned right before the space port of Kingston, where an idiot government employee was re-painting the street lines and thus causing an hour long traffic jam. Once that was over with, the rest of the way was smooth sailing. We had a bit of rain while entering the space quadrant OTT but managed to escape most of it. Once we reached port, an air of relief came over us and we rejoiced, knowing that we had done good work. We had set course of uncharted territories, possibly hostile lands and came back victorious and alive to tell the tales of our adventures.
"But fear not, we will return."
