Sven De Caluwe of ABORTED - "Man will be the end of man and that is what 'Global Flatline' is saying"
January 24th saw the long awaited release of Aborted's seventh studio album, "Global Flatline" on Century Media Records. The Gauntlet caught up with the Belgian goremaster Sven De Caluwe to give him a chance to talk about the recording of the album.
"The new album, "Global Flatline" is finally coming out. We finished mixing and mastering in July. Century Media had too many releases at the end of 2011 and wouldn't be able to treat it as a priority. We figured we had already spent three years writing it so it would be best for the record. It was a long time. It was frustrating. We worked really hard on it and wanted to have people hear it.
"We worked so much faster and better than we ever have on a record. We spent about three weeks recording, mixing and mastering the album. It wasn’t rushed. We had four weeks booked in the studio too. We practiced a lot before we went into the studio. We practiced for two weeks everyday and all day."
The albums grim outlook and the bleak cover art gives the listener a brief glimpse into the bands mindset going into the studio.
"The album theme is pretty bleak this time around. I think that a lot has to do with things going on around me. It is just how we see things going. When a man of God spits on an eight year old girl because she is on a bus, it is pretty much 'what the hell are you doing?' You deserve to die and that is pretty much what I am saying on this record. Society and the human race is pretty selfish. People don't really give a shit outside of their own little bubble and that is evident by the way things are going. I do believe that in the end, man will be the end of man and that is what “Global Flatline” is saying. There is no hope or correcting this either, we have already flatlined."
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by the renowned Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT, PESTILENCE, HATESPHERE) at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark, Global Flatline features several guest vocalists, including Trevor Strnad (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER), Julien Truchan (BENIGHTED), Jason Netherton (MISERY INDEX), and Keiijo Niinima (ROTTEN SOUND).
