The Gauntlet Rolls Our New Feature To Help Identify Band's And Labels That Support The RIAA
The Gauntlet has grown tired of major record labels and bands that support the RIAA and their draconian behavior. In 2011 alone, the RIAA has proposed and backed legislation to take away internet access after a third pirating attempt with no court proceedings, up to 5 years in jail for embedding a Youtube video on your Facebook or blog, and domain seizures of sites that link to pirated material.
On June 3, 2011, The United Nations declared that "internet access is a basic human right' and now the RIAA wants to take that right away. How are they able to do this? The Obama Administration has appointed five former RIAA lawyers to the Justice Department so far.
We realize it would be difficult to run a metal site and not report on any band's and labels that are involved with the RIAA. Our solution is to educate you the consumer. Anytime you purchase an album from a RIAA band, a portion of that money goes to the RIAA and helps them continue their lobbying efforts.
In June of 2011, The Gauntlet pledged not to cover any band that is on a major label as a silent protest. Now we will begin our campaign of educating the public on which bands you should avoid supporting. From the homepage of The Gauntlet, any news item from a RIAA artist will be flagged with a RIAA icon. There will also be an RIAA warning with a link at the bottom of every news page. Unlike the RIAA, we believe education is the key and not criminalizing a civil matter.
