The Real News Was The Lordi Cover Up That Followed

Lordi (2010) Earlier this week, metal sites began reporting on an incident that happened to the hard rock monster themed Lordi back in 2006. The event was an outdoor festival in Moscow that featured Lordi and the Scorpions at the G8 Summit. As Lordi opened up with "Bringing Back The Balls Of Rock", they had some technical issues to say the least. As they were playing, the bands backtrack began to skip into a classic Ashlee Simpson moment.

So why were people not reporting on this incident until now? Why did the metal press not cover it? Surely it would have made news in 2006. It actually turns out it was covered and metal press must be doing too many drugs to even remember.

Back in 2006, Lordi was still involved in the huge Eurovision band contest and were getting massive amounts of press. Not a day went by that the Lordi press machine wasn't hard at work. They had book deals, postage stamps, their own cola labels, churches apologizing to them for calling them devil worshippers. It was insane over in Europe. Women would call into radio shows and offer Mr. Lordi sex just to meet him. But in the U.S., we didn't care. It would be another 8 months before Lordi would have a record deal in the states and a few months after that until the band toured with Ozzfest.

So why wasn't the video posted in 2006? It was, but Lordi's camp and Eurovision officials got it swiftly removed from Youtube when it was posted and that was the end of that. There were countless press outlets that covered it in Russia and Finland though. Fans in attendance also blogged about it on the most popular website at the time, MySpace. Here are some accounts: "They kicked on with "Bringing Back The Balls Of Rock" And then it all began Words can hardly express what a bitter disappointment this was Right in the middle of a chorus something went wrong The song "jammed". And Lordi were still pretending like playing live! But it was no LIVE!!! This was friggin' playback!!! What a disgrace for disgrace for a rock'n'roll band. They have stopped "playing" for a couple of minutes and then returned with "Hard Rock Hallelujah". But again PLAYBACK. What a shame. What an attitude towards the audience. Bullsh*t". Eurovision was HUGE at the time. There is nothing like it in the U.S. unless you think of American Idol on crack and steroids. It was a monster of a program in 2006 and it was a money maker. The bands that came out of the show were big business. A story like this could have killed the band and the shows credibility.

If you'll remember, the big scandal to come out of the G8 Summit was when a reporter left a mic open and inadvertently recorded British Prime Minister Tony Blaire and U.S. President George Bush talking about Israel and Bush used a swear word. After that, how could Lordi's mistake even matter in the press?
