TUFF Frontman - "time and luck are a big part of making it in the music business"

In a recent interview with 80's hair metaller Stevie Rachelle of TUFF, The Gauntlet wanted to know how much timing was a factor in the bands demise. Stevie stated "When you are coming up in the third or fourth wave, it is hard to get people to think you are awesome. Vince Neil had to deal with a lot of the ‘hey, he’s just David Lee Roth with red pants on.’ Then Brett Michaels comes around and he had to deal with ‘he’s just Vince Neil with purple pants.’ Then Jani Lane comes up in Warrant and has to deal with being all three. By the time I come around, who was I? Stevie from Tuff, blonde haired kid from the midwest. Jani, Brett and I are the same guy in some sense. Even Axl [Rose] is from the midwest and had a dream of moving to Hollywood to make it big. Some of us just got there late. I didn’t get there until 1987. I was just looked at as another one of those guys. As far as Tuff competing with the arena acts, absolutely. We got a lot of press and packed a lot of clubs. We also did like thirty tours. It couldn’t all have been because I was cute and had long blond hair. There had to be something in our music that was good enough. Tuff definitely had what it takes to make it big, but time and luck are a big part of making it in the music business."

The band recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of "What Comes Around Goes Around".
