CHROME DIVISION Vocalist Discusses His New Found Love Of Cigars Post Open Heart Surgery
The Gauntlet recently spoke with Chrome Division vocalist Shady Blue about the band's new album "3rd Round Knockout," touring, and cigars. Smoking cigars is nothing new and something lots of people do. Typically the people that smoke them haven't had triple bypass surgery from a heart attack. When asked about this, Shady Blue stated "I have become quite the [cigar] aficionado. I was a heavy cigarette smoker until I had this thing. When I had open heart surgery, I was in the hospital for almost one month. One of the most unnatural things you can do when you get out is light up a cigarette. From time to time I like to enjoy a random cigar with a good whiskey or cognac and live a little. I don't inhale so it doesn't do the damage. It is just for the coziness."
Two years ago, Shady Blue, aka Athena of Susperia suffered a mild heart attack forcing the band to tour without him.
Just in case you are wondering, cigar smoking is bad for the heart. A 25 year long study published in the Journal of American Medical Association reported that cigar smokers suffer as much as 27% more risk than that of nonsmokers for coronary heart disease.
Chrome Division released "3rd Round Knockout" on May 5 via Nuclear Blast Records. Last week the band released the video for 'Bulldogs Unleashed' which features several scantily clad women, also not good for the heart.
