End of Year Recap - Sameer of Flyleaf

Flyleaf With the year coming to a close, The Gauntlet has contacted some of our favorite bands to recap their year and let us know whats in store for 2011. Sameer from Flyleaf has checked in with us.

Did you have any 'Spinal Tap' moments this year?

My entire career has been one long Spinal Tap moment spiraling out of control. A couple of months back we were playing a big outdoor festival supporting The Pixies and Interpol in Mexico City. When we started the set it was as if I channeled the Air Force show in Spinal Tap. There was exponentially more Mexican talk radio coming through my amp than any guitar sounds. Then a 14" step pyramid lowered from the truss and was almost trod upon by little people dressed like Aztec priests. I envy us.

What were some of your favorite releases from 2010?

Arcade Fire "The Suburbs"
Third Eye Blind "Ursa Major"

New Year's resolution?

My New Year's resolution is to be a better listener, and to shred like it's 1986.

Most memorable metal news item of 2010?

The most memorable news of 2010 was on May 24 when we heard that Slipknot's Paul Gray had passed away. Our hearts go out to them.

Plans for the holidays?

This holiday season I plan to enjoy "playing house" with my wife, cooking and watching movies and attempting to train our adopted rescue dog to stop barking at everyone that visits.

What's on your ipod?

Matisyahu
Mastadon
Arcade Fire
Jonsi
Air Review
The Chariot
MGMT

If you could bring back one musician from the grave for a day, who and why?

If I could bring back one musician from the grave for a day it would be Stevie Ray Vaughn. I would just watch him play guitar for the day and my life would be better because of it.

Flyleaf recently released "Remember to Live". Be sure to follow the band on Twitter here
