Dark Tranquillity vocalist - "There was a lot of frustration, anxiety and self doubt" writing the new album
The Gauntlet caught up to Dark Tranquillity vocalist Mikael Stanne today to discuss the bands new album "We Are the Void."
"It was really stressful" stated Mikael. "We spent pretty much a whole year writing the album and it was stressful as hell. I think this one was the hardest album to write. There was a lot of frustration, anxiety and self doubt. I think that worked in favor of the album as it helped us focus way more and really push ourselves hard to make sure this album was special in our minds. It was a writers block for sure in the beginning. We didn't really know what direction to go. Should we do something totally different, should we just keep doing what we are doing? I know Martin [Brandstrom] really struggled and he didn't have anything when we started writing. We booked the studio anyway as we needed to record by this time anyway. We got there and it pulled it all out of us. It really helped. A lot of things started to happen really fast, there was a lot of creativity going on. All the stress forced me to work harder and I think I needed that."
Dark Tranquillity is currently finishing up a tour with Killswitch Engage and The Devil Wears Prada before returning to the U.S. in May for a headline tour. "We Are the Void" will be released on March 9 via Century Media Records.
