With releases slowing down for the holiday's, time to take a look back and see how metal has progressed in releases over the years. Below is a chart I made that shows the number a metal albums released vs full lengths per year. It is interesting that metal hit a peak in 2007 before retracting slightly. Was this due to the recession or did metal as a whole reach maximum capacity? It will be interesting to see in the coming years. I never realized how long it took metal to really become sustainable? I always assumed many more albums were released in the 70's.
