Shining prepare to release Blackjazz
Norwegian quintet Shining are about to unleash their fourthfull length album entitled Blackjazz on February 2, 2010. Their determination to create new sounds and cross boundaries has only been further stepped up with their latest ear-crushing achievement.
An unstoppable force made out of small bits and pieces that hit in the right place at the right time, Blackjazz is a synchronized launch of attacks in Shining's hard hitting hybrid of jazz and metal. Joining forces with the technical prowess and extensive musical knowledge and experience from renowned producer/engineer Sean Beavan (NIN, Marilyn Manson, Slayer), Blackjazz elevates and intensifies the band's vision with a more extreme sound and an undeniable aggressiveness and catchiness rarely found in metal. The album also features vocals by Grutle Kjellson (Enslaved) on a cover of King Crimson's classic "21st Century Schizoid Man."
Spanning the past decade, Shining's career has caught the attention of press worldwide. Praised by Pitchfork, All Music Guide, Soundfix, Sonic Frontiers, Jazzwise, Paper Thin Walls, Stylus and others, The New York Times has called the band's progressive metal "a study in coordinated whiplash," while The BBC go on to say "Shining's juggernaut headbanging is orchestrated with intellectual precision."
