Ravage issues tour update from the Spider Over America tour
"Greetings friends and fiends,
I write to you from the deep forests of Northern California. As we are preparing to head to Seattle for the final phase of our US tour, I thought I'd take this opportunity to update you on how things have been going. Bruce Dickinson once sang "The road to hell is full of good intentions", and though this tour has not quite been what I'd describe as a "hell", and though I knew it would not be an easy road for us by any means, when we left with the intent of trying to resurrect a little sentiment for traditional heavy metal and thrash across this country I don't think I could have imagined all the crappy luck that has reigned down upon us on our way thus far. Indeed, if I were to describe the specifics of it to you all in detail - as I shall upon our return later this month, I'm sure some of you might not even believe that this stuff happened to us. So for now I'll give you a brief account of some of the few high-lights and many low-lights we've endured, and when I get back I'll be posting excerpts from my detailed tour journal on our MySpace www.myspace.com/swwr
I would like to express our sympathy to the victims of the recent flooding in Georgia. After we played a show in the Atlanta area recently, which happened to be one of our better shows, we learned that torrential floods had hit the area 2 days after we left and some of those in attendance may have been effected.
As far as updates - our video for the song "Grapes Of Wrath" has still yet to be edited, but it should premiere upon our return at the end of this month. We had some shows canceled on short notice that we unfortunately had no power to control - including 3 straight shows, and all of our shows in Northern California - that was just one of the strange things that happened to us. However we still have a show coming up in Los Angeles at The Black Castle on October 10th, so we hope anyone who wanted to see us in California can make the trip down there. We also were able to add a new appearance in New York City at Traxx nightclub with Ross The Boss (formerly of MANOWAR) on Oct 16th, before our appearance at The Iron and Steel Festival in Vineland NJ on Oct 17th. See our MySpace for the most updated dates.
Some of the cool stuff that happened...
- We've got the chance to meet some cool metal fans all across the USA- the truest of the true - who had picked up our new album "The End Of Tomorrow" and we got to play for people in places we'd never been to before.
- We played a great CD release party in Worcester MA with Revocation, Armory and many bands from the local scene.
- We got to meet Doro Pesch when we opened for her in CT.
- We got to meet some cool new bands, some of which we'd never heard of, and help them support traditional metal in their local scene.
Some of the strange and shitty stuff that happened...
- Our van broke down 3 times - one freak burn out of the onboard computer, and 2 tire issues. This might not be so strange, except that when the repair company ordered the new computer, they got the wrong part and that delayed us for an additional 2 days, and when our flat tire was fixed by a repair facility, it lasted for a 75 mile drive before exploding as we pulled into the venue parking lot in Texas. Then after we went home briefly and got some other repairs done, a separate repair shop told us they had ordered the wrong part for that repair.
- 2 days after we left a successful show in the Marietta GA, the area was hit by intense floods which affected some of the people in attendance.
- At no less than 3 shows all of the local support acts dropped off - and on one occasion, 3 dropped off and none of them bothered to contact the club.
- We had a show in Alabama delayed because of a college football game - that was delayed because of lightning.
- We had a show dropped because the club's license expired the previous day and they decided not to have live music anymore.
- All of the support bands for a show in CA weren't allowed to play because one of the members was underage.
This just scratches the surface of the good times and bad we've had over the past 2 months. I'm sure you'll all delight in the full details when they are made available in the coming weeks. Until then, come out and see our remaining shows over the next month - you never know what will happen.
- Al"
