HOD guitarist Carl "Lord Necron" Snyder comments on band's inclusion in "Slow Southern Steel"
"The South will rise again! Now that we got your attention. Hod is a part of a new metal documentary about bands from the South called "Slow Southern Steel". The film focuses on Southern acts that play doom, sludge, death metal. HOD represents the more extreme side of things in the South, so they asked us to represent the death/black/thrash/whatever-you-want-to-call-it metal in the South. The film includes live footage of the band playing that is shot with multi camera so it some cool stuff. HOD vocalist Beer Reebs does a killer interview in the film too. Any fan of metal will enjoy this film."
Coming in 2010: One of the most comprehensive southern metal documentaries in history! Appropriately dubbed "Slow Southern Steel", the 80-plus-minute film is executive-produced by Karim Khan (I'm Better Than Everyone Records) and directed by RWAKE vocalist CT and David Lipke with the additional and integral assistance of George Hancock, Alix Petrovich and BEER WOLF guitarist Christian Sweeney (who will be releasing a paperback version of the production) among many others. Catch the trailer for the film here.
"Slow Southern Steel" will make its debut at the renowned Little Rock Film Festival in May of 2010 where many of the bands featured will be in attendance (stay tuned for further details). Additional festival previews will follow.
The DVD edition is slated to be released in 2011 via fast-growing, vinyl-only (and now DVD) Chicago imprint I'm Better Than Everyone Records.
More about HOD
In a world where metal has become too safe and guys run around the pit in girly shirts and eyeliner, HOD has set out to bring back the menace. The membership is a veritable who's who of Texas underground metal. Guitarists Bjorn Haga (ex-NECROVORE) and Carl "Lord Necron" Snyder (ex-THORNSPAWN), vocalist Beer Reebs (PILLCRUSHER. RANCID VAT), bassist Derrick Rivers (ex-GG ALLIN), and drummer Dennis Sanders (ex-EXCULRATE) form the unholy alliance. This ain't no fashion show.
An EP appropriately titled "Cry and Piss Yourself" was released on digital extreme metal label Metal Hit in 2008, serving as a stern warning to faux metal wannabes, mall crawlers, and trendy parasites everywhere. But the world had seen nothing yet, as the band's signing to Ibex Moon Records soon led to "Serpent", HOD's monstrous full-length debut.
Generally speaking, most will recognize a blackened death metal sound that is as chilling as it is vicious. However, the members of HOD prefer a too often forgotten label called "fucking metal." Beer Reebs spews his twisted tales with an iniquitous rasp joined by the screaming licks and jagged riffs of guitarists Lord Necron and Haga, while the rhythm section of drummer Dennis Sanders and bassist Derrick Rivers gallops and slams with frightening intensity. You have been warned.
