SILENT CIVILIAN Commence Recording Process For Sophomore Release
Brutal, intense, uncompromising and unrelenting are just a few words that one will use to describe the vicious new SILENT CIVILIAN album, which is set for an early 2010 release. The band stormed onto the metal scene with their stunning debut offering, Rebirth of The Temple, in 2006 led by Spineshank vocalist Jonny Santos, who used this platform to unleash all of his inner demons. This was an extremely aggressive outing that took the scene by storm and its follow-up looks to take everything to the next level. This is the new wave of thrash metal and you can check out some new demo tracks at myspace.com/silentcivilian. Stay tuned to this site over the next few weeks for a slew of new video footage documenting the making of this highly anticipated new album.
SILENT CIVILIAN embarks on a massive North American headlining run on August 24th. Either see below or head over to their MySpace page to view their complete touring schedule.
Santos further states: "Getting back into the studio to record the 2nd SILENT CIVILIAN record is very exciting. I felt that the first record was a success and feel very fortunate to be able to do it again. It has been a few years of hard touring and after a much needed vacation the batteries are charged and we are back in full force. Tracking a record like this is not an easy task and I will never get used to the endless hours of what goes into making one, but the magic that happens during the process is amazing. I believe that as much as you prepare for a record, a good 50% of what makes that record so special, happens in the studio. SILENT CIVILIAN has finally come of age in my eyes, stepping out from behind the shadow of my other band Spineshank. It is now perceived as its own entity by our fans and not seen as merely a 'side project.' The delay of this record was also due to my reunion with Spineshank, so needless to say, I have been super busy.
"Musically, this record is very different from the last, but evolution is the key to longevity in my eyes. I believe we are making a record that will retain what is the main essence of SC, but maturing greatly pushing forward. Having another guitar player contribute more to this record as opposed to the last, in which I wrote 90% of the music, is a plus. This record is also much more violent than the last and will be less produced in the sense that I am really trying to capture the elements of a 'live' thrash metal band on tape. There is not much room to breathe with this one, and I want to sonically beat the shit out of the listener without losing their interest. Dynamically, it will be a roller coaster of beatings and abuse! Don't get me wrong, we will still have very melodic moments as well, because melody has always been a strong part of metal. I am going with a lot of very traditional thrash metal riffs, because I don't really listen to very many newer bands out of fear that I will be influenced into sounding like the band of the week. I would rather be influenced by the bands that pioneered this genre of music (Testament, Exodus, Kreator, Death Angel (my favorite), Forbidden, etc) I promise that this new SILENT CIVILAN disc is going to rip your fucking face off.
"We also leave on a massive North American headlining run on August 24th, which I can't wait for. I love touring and it's been a year and a half since we've been on the road. With new bassist Shaun Fieler and guitarist Dave De La Cruz returning to the band, I believe we will have an extremely dynamic and solid live show. Dave is playing better than ever and Shaun is just an amazing musician all around. He is a great singer as well, which is good when it comes to doing harmonies live. We will be hitting every major U.S. market, so head over to our MySpace page for dates. As far as setlists are concerned, we will be playing about 4-5 new songs during our set in support of the new release. In the meantime, we have posted demo versions of the new songs on our page for the fans to listen to. We will also be posting video blogs of us in the studio to kind of give the fans an inside look at SILENT CIVILIAN and the progression of the record. We look forward to seeing you all soon."
