'Chinese Democracy' leaker has charges reduced; ass no longer at risk of being violated
Federal authorities have announced that they will be reducing criminal charges against Kevin Cogill, the Los Angeles blogger who confessed to uploading nine tracks from Guns N' Roses upcoming highly-anticipated album, "Chinese Democracy."
The U.S. attorney's office has altered charges from a felony to misdemeanor, a move that bring Cogill's maximum prison exposure down from five years to one. A trial date is expected to be decided on Tuesday.
According to Wired.com: "Under the misdemeanor statute, the authorities must prove copyright infringement of the right of performance, distribution or reproduction accomplished for commercial gain or financial advantage. Using the internet is not required and the material does not need to be pre-release."
"Chinese Democracy" will be officially released (for real this time) on 11/23.
