The Gauntlet: Dogs Of Winter Metal News

DOGS OF WINTER release UNValentines Day Single

Dogs Of Winter New York, NY (February 13, 2006) - Let's face it, this pseudo holiday is only for a certain demographic anyway' the neglected housewife, the brooding romance demanding more attention or the fading relationship that needs to be rekindled. On that note, DOGS OF WINTER is throwing a big finger to the lovers on the apropos February 14th with the release of their UNValentine Single "Thumbscrews." The B-side is a unique hard-edge take on the Chris Isaak favorite "Wicked Game."

The single is from the recent release of DOGS OF WINTER's debut EP, Cut Down To The Quick, a collection of dark songs that revolve around doomed romances and abusive relationships.

The DOGS OF WINTER sound combines the soaring dynamics of the Deftones with the guitar-rock swagger of Queens of the Stone Age. They toy with the experimentation of Quicksand and bathe in the gravel-pits of Jawbreaker without abandoning the hooks of a Foo Fighters anthem.

Already building a strong following in the North East and with acclaim snowballing more than NYC right now from press, Dogs Of Winter are currently preparing for a set of dates to Austin and back before another slew of shows in NYC, Boston and Philly.

The band came to be during the faint nights of a December in Brooklyn. After a decade of working together in various projects and temporary situations, childhood friends Dave Valle (drums) and Brian Grosz (guitars, vocals) came together in a basement studio and began to meticulously workshop their material. They recruited former collaborator Seth Berkowitz on bass (Grosz and Berkowitz played together alongside future members of The Bravery in Conquistador) and the trio began their soldier's march into the fray of the NYC rock-scene.

Kirk Hammett of Metallica was vacationing in Cabo San Lucas and walked into Cabo Wabo while the Mexican band Vitamin T was playing a cover of 'Until It Sleeps'. Hammett walked over and grabbed a guitar and jammed along with the band.
